I firmly believe EVERYONE can enjoy art. Visual Impairments doesn’t have to stop you. Things just need a little adapting. I worked as an art instructor at a camp for the visually impaired and below are 5 of my favorite crafts!

  1. Active Painting

A fan favorite! This one involves a lot of movement and energy. Set up multiple sections.

pendulum painting- take two chairs and set them apart with the backs facing each other. Take a pipe or long stick and put it between them so it’s balanced on them. Take a cup and poke two holes in the side at the lip of the cup. Poke hole at bottom. Place tape over the bottom hole. Put sting through the top two holes and tie it to the middle of the pipe. The higher up the bigger the pendulum design will be. Place a drop cloth under the chairs covering the area. Place paper on floor under the cup. Fill another cup with ⅓ water and then paint up to the half of the cup. Pour into cup, then remove tape. Push cup around so it pours paint into different directions.

Balloon painting — fill water balloons with paint that has been premixed with a little water. It helps to use squeeze bottles with a tip to fill paint. a funnel also works. tie balloons and place into bucket. Place a drop cloth on a wall ( or fence by pool) tape a large sheet of paper on it. Have campers throw the water…
